Assembly Hall of Chaozhou Hoi An, also known as Ong Bon pagoda, was built in 1845 by overseas Chinese in Chaozhou state to serve as a place for the Chaozhou community activities and private beliefs people in Hoi An.

This place worships the gods who can control the waves to pray for all the good things to the people. According to folk legends, this hall has a unique architecture with intricately carved wooden frames and decorative motifs, including embossed beautiful porcelain works. It is with these beauties that you can feel the ingenuity of the ancient artisans.

Chaozhou Assembly Hall is not only a meeting place for people in the Chaozhou community, but it also has great religious significance.

The unique historical architecture of Chaozhou Assembly Hall

Chaozhou Hall is one of the unique architecture with beautiful art and patterns, ancient style. The architecture here is a highlight that attracts visitors here.

– The front of the Assembly Hall is erected with large pieces of stone with different carvings such as phalaenopsis, four spirits, carp turning into dragons, etc.

– The front of the houses are mostly built of wood and stone. The internal architectural design is stacking, and the body of the trusses is carved very delicately and uniquely. Next to the main fields are attached plaques, touching. With multi-story structural art, between the floors are added the pictures of birds, characters, etc., roof banks, and gables. These details are shaped very soft, contributing to making the architecture more unique.

– The main hall consists of 3 main compartments. The standard structure is mainly large wooden columns along with the characteristic stacks of fake bamboo. The kegs are sculpted into dragon bodies, with fish heads supporting the decoration. The main doors are carved with many promising projects.

Connecting between the electricity house and the front area is the place to receive guests and prepare items to worship in the big festivals of the assembly hall.

– On the 16th day of the first lunar month every year, the Assembly Hall will hold a solemn ceremony to worship Nguyen Tieu and the Ancestor of Tien Hien. The ceremony attracted many ethnic Chinese of Chaozhou origin in Hoi An and nearby local areas such as Hue, Da Nang, and Quang Ngai.

How to get to Chaozhou Hall

Assembly Hall of Chaozhou Hoi An is located right in the tourist area of ​​Hoi An Ancient Town. You can go from the Japanese Bridge. From this position, you move about 750 meters along Tran Phu Street. Then, passing through Quan Cong Temple, you will see the Assembly Hall of Chaozhou Chinese Congregation.

Anyone coming here is amazed by the awe-inspiring architecture of the assembly hall. Indeed, this place is built very sophisticatedly and meticulously, from small details to the overall. As a whole, this architecture was built mainly in the highly magnificent foreign and domestic style.

When entering the hall, you will see firsthand the unique shapes carved on the rocks. Around the assembly hall, there are many trees of different sizes, all of which are rare and valuable trees contributed by visiting expatriates.
