Where is Hon Chao Island?

Hon Chao is a pristine island located at the foot of Hai Van peak, in Lang Co territory, Phu Loc district, Thua Thien Hue province. It is located at the border between Da Nang and Hue, so many confuse Hon Chao Island in Da Nang.

According to historical records, Hon Chao was called Pearl Island from the Tay Son period; then, it was called Hon Son Cha during the French colonial period. Because it is easy to confuse with the name Son Tra island in Da Nang, it is officially named Hon Chao. It is called Hon Chao because it looks like an upside-down pan from afar.
