1. Traditional costume of the Kinh People

Among 54 Vietnamese ethnic groups, the Kinh people account for the most significant number, with many long-standing cultural beauties, especially in costumes. The traditional Ao Dai is the outstanding national costume of the Kinh people, showing a part of the soul and culture of Vietnam.

Ao dai has a split style, worn with long pants which are neatly designed and fit the body. The two front and back flaps of the Ao Dai extend from the neck to the feet. Long pants are wide-leg pants, which help to exude a soft beauty and keep the wearer comfortable.

Over time, Ao Dai is gradually transformed and innovated to be trendy but still retain the discreet spirit, enhancing the wearer’s charm. This style of clothing can be varied in colors and patterns. The collar can be high, round, heart-shaped, tied with a bow, or with some stylized details, creating a richer beauty for the wearer.

2. Traditional costume of Khmer People

In Vietnamese culture, costumes are a crucial factor in expressing the identity of each ethnic group. If the Kinh have a traditional ao dai, the Khmer have many different costumes for different occasions in life.

4. Traditional costume of Hmong People

When traveling to Vietnam, especially the northern mountainous provinces, you will encounter the image of H’mong people with colorful traditional costumes and sophisticated designs. The highlight of this outfit is the striking patterns, creating a specific attraction for the wearer.

5. Traditional costume of Tay People

The ethnic costumes of the Tay people have a simple beauty, less fussy but still exude grace for the wearer. The primary colors of the clothes are black and indigo which men’s and women’s costumes are both not embroidered, not glitter. The traditional costume that Ede women use is a gown wrapped around the waist, covering the lower half of the body. The shirt is designed as a pullover, slit across the left shoulder to the right shoulder. The shirt will fit the body, not revealing, creating a discreet and elegant beauty when worn on the body.

9. Traditional costume of Cho Ro People  

Cho Ro is one of the ethnic groups owning beautiful national costumes of Vietnam with colorful colors and many patterns and motifs. The Cho Ro people grew their cotton and weaved and dyed yarn to make traditional dresses.

Cho Ro women’s skirt is a closed skirt style, worn with a sleeveless shirt in the old style. The shoulders, neck, arms, chest, and bodice are embroidered with many traditional patterns. For men, their outfits are long pants and loincloths that go with various tops, from long sleeves to sleeveless. Besides clothes, the Cho Ro people also have much jewelry such as bangles, beaded rings, brocade ropes wrapped around the foreheads for young men, headscarves for adult men.

10. Traditional costume of Tho People

In the past, Tho women rarely wore skirts. This ethnic group often chooses to buy dresses with Thai people, so Thai people influence the costumes. However, the Tho national costume still exudes a unique beauty. It is also one of the beautiful national costumes of Vietnam.

The Tho skirt consists of a dark red or white hem, indigo, black, and indigo skirts with horizontal lines. Remarkably, the skirt part is decorated with interesting diamond-shaped brocade patterns.

The Tho people have a fancy square white headscarf with a blue or red belt. The costumes of the Tho are not picky, and it shows comfort and lightness, high applicability in life. 

In conclusion, each ethnic group in Vietnam has its traditional costume that is very beautiful and outstanding. The costumes of the Kinh, Khmer, Cham, Hmong, Tay, Thai, Red Dao, Ede, Cho Ro, and Tho ethnic groups are considered the most beautiful, impressive, and attractive.
