Come to Ninh Bình, in addition to famous familiar places such as Tam Coc – Bich Dong, Bai Dinh Pagoda, Hang Dance, Trang An …, remember not to miss the famous Am Tien Cave, a place newly emerging tourist destination for about three years now, with a bold name for the swordplay “Awesome Love”.

As a landscape of Hoa Lu ancient capital national complex, Am Tien cave locates in Truong Yen commune, Hoa Lu district, only 12km from the center of Ninh Binh city.

Before building a tunnel through the mountain to the cave, Am Tien cave was quite isolated so that not many people knew it, including the locals. However, the location of Am Tien cave is 400m from the East gate of King Dinh Tien Hoang temple, adjacent to the East citadel of Hoa Lu ancient capital.

Am Tien cave is located in a valley surrounded by rocky cliffs, has a lake in the middle, a rock pagoda on the mountains, a tunnel through the mountains, and a majestic gate.


The stone gate looks like the scene of a swordplay film, opening up so much curiosity behind; carried the fairy tales of a wild rocky cave with historical imprints.

Am Tien Cave is located halfway up the mountain, in the past under the reign of King Dinh; this place is where to raise tigers to punish the dead inmates. As for the large lake in the middle, King Dinh, raised crocodiles to throw criminals down.

The lake is covered with moss. In the beautiful days with sunshine, the water is as clear as jade. Besides, in the summertime, lotus flowers and waterlily are blooming in the lake.

In the Am Tien cave, the is the same name pagoda; Am Tien pagoda, which you must climb more than 200 stone steps to reach.

In the last years of her life, Empress Duong Van Nga ordained as a monk at Am Tien Pagoda, taking the Buddhist name of Bao Quang Queen Dowager.


In addition to worshiping Buddha, Empress Duong Van Nga, Am Tien Pagoda also praises some famous people of the Dinh dynasty and Zen monk Nguyen Minh Khong of Ly dynasty. The Zen master is the one who has practiced in the cave, chanted sermons, built additional stone pedestals for Buddha worship that today visitors to the main cave entrance can see.

Deep inside the mountain of the cave – Am Tien Pagoda, this place has the shape of a dragon’s mouth, so it is also called the Dragon cave. In the cave, there are many stalactites that are thousands of years old.

As a land separate from the outside world, Am Tien Cave is worthy of the name “The magnificent oasis”, a beautiful green scene like a swordplay movie, deserving of a destination not to be missed in any journey’s wishlist.
