8 trekking trails in the South with famous mountains in Southern Vietnam

Let’s go out for exercise, breathe the fresh and clean air when challenges with trekking trails in the South. These are 8 climbing trails, classifying from easy to difficult, suitable for beginners and professional athletes.

Level 1: Cam Mountain (An Giang)

Cam Mountain (Forbidden Moutain) is the only mountain in the Southwest region with 705m heigh, as a dash between the fertile plains. Belonging to the mysterious That Son mountain range, Cam Mountain possesses not only beautiful natural scenery but also contains many magical legends that attract a lot of tourists.

Among the most accessible trekking trails in the South, the road to Cam Mountain is long but quite comfortable. If you depart early in the morning, you can stop in the middle of the mountain to watch the floating clouds and the immense rice fields. 

Level 2: Ta Cu Mountain (Binh Thuan)

With a height of 649m, Ta Cu mountain is an attractive trekking spot for you. Only 28 km from Phan Thiet city, Ta Cu Mountain has become a popular tourist destination in Binh Thuan. Ta Cu Mountain locates near the Ke Ga lighthouse area so you can combine hiking and sightseeing lighthouse.

To reach the top of the mountain, you have to cross a long path of nearly 3,000m, through a majestic primeval forest. The road to the hill is a trail, quite easy to go, but in particular, there are ramps with a slope of up to 45 degrees, so you need to pay attention to ensure your safety.

Level 3: Ba Ra Mountain (Binh Phuoc)

Ba Ra Mountain, in Phuoc Long town, Binh Phuoc province, is a well-known trekking route in the South with 723m height. Located in the area adjacent to the Central Highlands, Ba Ra mountain has fresh, extremely comfortable air.

From Dong Xoai town, you follow provincial road 741, go through the center of Phuoc Long town, to Ba Ra mountain cable car station, continue to go about 500 meters to see the trail to the mountain. You can ride a motorbike to Bang Lang hill at 150m height, then from here start the trekking journey.

On the right of Bang Lang hill is the walking path to the mountain with stone steps, flanked by poetic bamboo rows. From the top of the mountain, you can unleash your eyes on the Mo Waterfall hydroelectric lake and beautiful unspoiled nature. 

Level 4: Chua Chan Mountain (Dong Nai)

About 110km away from Ho Chi Minh City, Chua Chan Mountain in Xuan Loc District, Dong Nai Province is the second highest mountain of the Southeast, with a height of 800m above sea level. Recently, Chua Chan Mountain is known as a trekking trail in the South, and the weekend campsite is quite impressive.

On the mountain there is Buu Quang Pagoda which is very sacred, so it is also famous as a spiritual destination in the Southeast. You can combine the pagoda visits and mountain climbing. From the main gate of Chua Chan Mountain Resort, you need to go all 400 steps to the temple, then follow the trail to conquer the peak.

Level 5: Ba Den Mountain (Tay Ninh)

With a height of 968m, Ba Den Mountain is the highest one of the Southeast and also the most popular trekking trail in the South. The path to the mountain is quite hard, but in return, you will be “treated” worthy by the relaxed, pure atmosphere.

The higher you go, the more wild and romantic nature you see. From the top of the mountain, you can have a panoramic view of Tay Ninh city, Dau Tieng lake and Cau mountain (Binh Duong province). If the weather is favorable, you will enjoy the feeling of being immersed in a floating sea of ​​clouds – the magical scenery that can only be seen in the northern mountains.

Level 6: Nui Chua Mountain (Ninh Thuan)

Not only the name of a mountain, but Nui Chua is also the name of a National Park in Ninh Hai district, Ninh Thuan province, which owns beautiful natural landscapes and rare flora and fauna.

Located in the area of ​​Vinh Hy Bay – one of the most beautiful bays in Vietnam – Nui Chua Mountain has a favorable position to become the popular trekking trail in the South .

To conquer Nui Chua Mountain, you should start from Da Hang village, cross the Raglai terraces, camp overnight at O ​​Liem stream, then reach the top of the mountain the next morning. This is the most popular route for trekking.

Along the way, you will find murmuring streams weaving through the rocks, flocks of mountain goats grazing. At the top of the mountain, you can zoom in on the four sides. The East and South of Nui Chua Mountain overlook the East Sea, the North overlooks Cam Ranh Bay, the South is Thi Nai Lagoon, and the West is Highway 1A. 

Level 7: Langbiang Mountain (Lam Dong)

As a famous tourist spot in Da Lat, people only know Langbiang with jeep tours to the top of the hill to admire the scenery without knowing that there is another proud, wild, and challenging Langbiang.

With an height of more than 2,000 meters above sea level, Langbiang Mountain (Lac Duong District, Lam Dong Province) is the second highest mountain in the range of Bidoup – Nui Ba National Park. To conquer the mountain, you must follow the trail near the scenic hill.

From the top of the mountain, you can admire the beauty of Suoi Bac and Suoi Vang resorts, immense pine forests submerged in mist and collected into the panoramic view of Da Lat dream city.

Level 8: Bidoup Mountain (Lam Dong)

Finally, the most challenging level on the list of trekking trails in the South is Bidoup Mountain – the highest mountain in the range of Bidoup – Nui Ba National Park. To conquer this 2,000m high mountain, you need to take two days, with a long road of nearly 30km.

The easiest route for amateur climbers is from DT 723 to the campsite near the top of the mountain (17km long) and the next day conquer the peak and down the mountain along the road to the Long Lanh station (10km long ).

Although the journey to climb is quite hard, the poetic scenery on the way, such as pine hills, waterfalls, rich vegetation.. will make you forget the tiredness.
