Introduction to Lap An lagoon in Hue
Lap An Lagoon, also known as An Cu Lagoon or Lang Co Lagoon, is a brackish water lagoon with fantastic natural scenery located on the banks of Lang Co Bay, in Lang Co town, Thua Thien Hue province. This place is also one of 12 iconic lagoons for the central region of Vietnam! The location of the lagoon is also exceptional when it is on the Hai Van – Bach Ma massif, right at the boundary of the North and South climate regions. Therefore, the temperature of the lagoon ranges from 18–31 °C. It will also be quite cool in the early morning or early evening – Ideal times to visit Lang Co Lagoon.

The lagoon has an area of about 71 square kilometers. The lake is made up of rivers, streams, and bays, so the water here will be salty water suitable for the development of many different species of creatures. Therefore, the flora system of Lap An lagoon is very diverse, with up to 8 types of sediments corresponding to 8 different types of environments appearing in the lagoon. In addition to developing tourism, Lap An lagoon is also the largest oyster barn in Lang Co Bay, in addition to exploiting many other aquatic products.

Guess where the name Lap An lagoon comes from? It was initially called Lang Co Lagoon because the ecosystem around the lagoon is vibrant, so it attracts a lot of herds of storks as a place to live. Later, when the French colonized, the French read the lagoon as “Lang Co.” After the war, its name was changed to Lap An lagoon.

When should you visit Lap An lagoon?
The ideal time to come to Lap An lagoon is at dawn and dusk of the days. In addition, you can choose to go here from about April to July because it is dry, sunny, less rainy, and the water is clear. Because it is located quite far from Hue city center, about 60 km, not too many young people choose to catch the sunrise at Lap An lagoon. Therefore, if you are a person who “gets up early,” then the space with the dazzling sunrise scene will give you many photos for a lifetime. When the sun is just beginning to rise, the setting from dawn will light up very quickly, so take advantage of your opportunity!

Besides the charming space, with lonely dry trees growing on the lakeside, there is also a raft above the lake for you to step on to take pictures freely. Dressing up as “Lap An lagoon ferryman,” pushing the raft to the middle of the lake, you have successfully “cosplayed.” Or, if the angle of the photo is correct, the raft will form a small bamboo bridge which is also very lovely. The strange path leads to the middle of the lagoon
Every time the tide recedes, there will be a secret passage in the middle of the lagoon! You will see an excellent white sandbank. You will feel like you are standing on a narrow “island,” surrounded by the vast sea, in the distance looming shadows of boats or cottages built by fishermen to rest. Lap An Lagoon’s cuisine
Because Lap An lagoon is famous as an enormous oyster barn in Lang Co town, it would be a pity if you missed the oysters here. Oysters are processed into many dishes, but the most famous are grilled oysters with onion fat. The top is also sprinkled with a little fried onion, eaten with sweet and sour chili garlic fish sauce, spicy pangolin tip is scorching. When baby oysters are large, bite into them to feel the sweet taste as well as the milky taste of oysters, mixed with the aroma of onion fat and burnt onions. Absolutely in love with that!

“This place is truly a hidden gem. Not many tourists know about this place. It’s too surreal. If you are crossing Hai Van Pass by scooter, you should stop by this place. Sunset is magical and romantic. Many Vietnamese newlyweds have done their wedding photography sessions here.” Debasish – An Indian tourist commented.
“Sunset is probably the ideal time to visit Lap An lagoon. You can enjoy the great view from the roadside. Lots of cars and motorbikes often stop here for a while. There is a white sand beach stretching to the middle of the lagoon where many couples like to take photos for their wedding album. If you want some fresh seafood, there are several restaurants to try. Seafood is harvested from the lagoon and the nearby sea.” Minh Ho’s friend shared.
