Where is Da Bac Cave (Silver Stone Cave)?

Da Bac Cave is a completely natural rock cave located in the heart of Pai Day mountain or Hang Beo mountain of Da Bac village, Lien Son commune, Luong Son district, Hoa Binh province, and about 40km from Hanoi capital.

The cave was discovered in 1990 by a local who collected firewood, with the entrance of the cave at first just a tiny slit enough for one person to walk. Later, the locals widened the way, made floor tiles, and installed a lighting system for convenience to visit. Then, in 2000, Da Bac cave was ranked as a national landscape relic and became one of the most attractive destinations in Hoa Binh today.

Legend of Da Bac cave

According to the legend in the region, the fairies in the sky, hanging down to the underworld, were attracted by the mysterious beauty of Da Bac cave, making them engrossed in fun and refused to return to the upper world. This angered the Jade Emperor, who immediately closed the door of the heavens to prevent the fairies from returning to heaven so that year after year, the fairies incarnated into the cliff. Since then, the cave has had another exciting name, Co Tien cave (Fairy Cave).

What is interesting about Da Bac Cave?

Da Bac cave is a masterpiece of art with a length of 65m, width from 4m to 22m, the highest place up to 15m and is divided into 3 small caves named: Co Tien cave, Long Tien cave, and Mau cave. Each site has a different beauty that makes visitors admire and be amazed.

Co Tien Cave (Fairy Cave)

This is the first cave that visitors can see when entering Da Bac Cave. As soon as you step in, you will feel overwhelmed by a ceiling with many stalactites hanging down like a forest hanging upside down, as well as a unique curtain hanging in the sky.

In particular, each stalactite has a different shape. Some stand alone with sharp tips like spearheads. Some of them lie together to form a bunch of blooming flowers, sometimes looks like splendid chandeliers. When the light shines on, it emits rays of light, red, yellow, blue, purple iridescent, shimmering like a hidden treasure.

Below the stalactites in Co Tien cave, there are two natural pools filled with natural water and a winding rock system forming small terraced fields. In each rainy season, water drops from above, making the vast areas look like a new crop that looks extremely vivid and eye-catching.

Long Tien Cave

Leaving Co Tien cave, you will step into Long Tien cave with many ceiling arches, and each angle is a work of art carved elaborately in a different way, bringing us to other emotions. It can be the rocks like the rim of a scarf hanging on the shoulder of a girl, the colorful lights that make the cave more shimmering, or it can be the magnificent ancient castles growing under the water.

In addition, this cave in Da Bac cave also has an exciting point: there is a side door leading to the outside so that sunlight can seep in like neon lights or illusory moonlight an entire space without using lights.

Long Tien cave has light shining like a fairy scene.

Mau Cave

The journey to discover Da Bac cave will end at Mau cave, with the space shrunk to the size of bedrooms. The most prominent are still stalactites sprouting everywhere, but it brings more attractive shapes such as clusters of shaggy durians, clusters of star fruit, soft bends of Buddha’s hands, or ancient vases of flowers.

The lower part is equally beautiful when the Creator created a vivid fairy tale with: mountains of gold and silver trees, piles of rice and paddy fields, waterfalls are flowing fiercely, fairy-like fairy the back of the cliff, etc. so that we can watch it over and over without getting bored.

The sacred Udumbara flower

Not only impressing with mysterious caves but Da Bac cave in Hoa Binh is also known as the successor of the “sacred flower that brings good omens from Heaven” named Uu Dam flower. It is known that this is a flower that blooms only once every 3,000 years. When in full bloom, the flower is pure white. The top of each petal has tiny white threads like glowing pearls, enchanting the soul.

However, it is still impossible to know the exact time when the flowers bloom, so anyone who comes to Hoa Binh, no matter how many times they have gone, wants to visit the cave to know if they will be lucky to admire it.

A few notes when coming to Da Bac cave (Silver Stone Cave)

How to get there: From Hanoi city, you follow Highway 6 about 33km to the West to Xuan Mai town, then turn to Highway 21 and go about 7km further south to Luong Son district post office, from here, continue Continue to turn right along the inter-commune road through Treo bridge, Coi hamlet, Nang Hang hamlet, Nuoc Lanh hamlet and Go Me hamlet to reach the Da Bac cave.

The best time to go: each season, the cave has a different beauty, but when the rainy season comes, the underground geysers are more active, making it more sparkling, so this will be the ideal time for you to visit the cave.

Clothing: You have to travel a lot and overcome rough and uneven terrain, you should wear sports shoes and comfortable, active clothes to move quickly. Especially should bring water to drink along the way.
