Overview of Cham Island

Located in Tan Hiep commune, Hoi An city, Quang Nam province, Cham Island (Cù Lao Chàm) is the “pearl of Quang Nam,” attracting domestic and international tourists to explore and experience. The Island consists of 8 large and small islands, surrounded by diverse natural ecosystems, mountains, forests, and sea views in a harmonious combination.

This place has been a major trading port and fishing grounds of the Kingdom of Champa since the 15th century, located on the international road of silk, aroma, and ceramics. With rich flora and fauna and historical sites hundreds of years ago, Cham Island is recognized by UNESCO as one of the world’s biosphere reserves.

From Hoi An Town, take a boat along the Thu Bon River, turn the wave to Cua Dai, you will see Cham Island hidden with enchanting beauty. It is a tropical paradise with rows of curved coconuts, turquoise waters, white waves patting the sand, and sparkling sunlight.

A day in Cu Lao Cham will give you interesting experiences such as floating on the river, exploring ancient relics, imprinting the Champa culture as well as understanding more about the lifestyle, ways of life of people in the sea.

The ideal time to travel to Cham Island

Moving to the Cham Island Hoi An

To get to Cham Island Hoi An, you need to be at Cua Dai port or Bach Dang wharf (Hoi An ancient town). From Cua Dai port, it will take you about 20 minutes to dock in Cham Island if traveling by canoe. Round trip ticket for the day about 450,000 VND / person.

Meanwhile, if traveling by wooden boat, it will cost you about 100,000 VND, starting from Bach Dang wharf in the ancient town of Hoi An. On the 2-hour journey to the water, you will be watching the impressive scenery along the way. They are rustic fishing villages, beautiful landscapes and charming blue sea looming in the distance …

Where to stay on the Cham Island, Hoi An?

Cham Island, Hoi An is still quite wild, not much impact on tourism services. It focuses mainly on homestays, instead of luxury hotels and resorts. Here, you can relax at the homestay located at Ong beach, Lang beach, and Huong beach. The average room price is 50,000 – 100,000 VND / person or 150,000 VND / 2 people.

Besides, if you love the open space, nature, you can choose to camp overnight on the beach. Pristine Bai Beach, with clear water, is an attractive place to stay. Also, Ong beach, Xep beach, Huong beach are even camping sites to attract tourists.

What to eat at Cham Island, Hoi An?

It is famous for its fresh seafood, processed by people right after fishing. Here, you can find many delicacies such as squid, sea urchin, abalone, stone crab, etc. Tan Hiep Market is famous for many delicious, nutritious, cheap seafood. For you to choose and satisfy your taste buds.

Fresh squid exposed to the sun is a gift that attracts foodies. Besides, stone crab is a precious specialty, everyone wants to taste it when coming to Cu Lao Cham. Stone crabs eat the grass on the mountain so the meat is firm, sweet, bold, without the fishy smell.

In addition, forest vegetables, including 16 kinds of medicinal plants, growing wild in the foothills are also natural products in Cu Lao Cham. Early in the summer, you can follow the locals’ harvest and processing of wild and unforgettable rustic vegetable dishes.

What to play in the island?

If you like backpacking, you should rent a motorbike and wander around every corner of the Cham island, Hoi An. Cham ancient wells, marine museums, Hai Tang pagodas are places to try, for those who love to explore and learn about history and culture.

Also, Cu Lao Cham owns many beautiful and pristine beaches such as Bai beach, Xep beach, Bai beach, Ong beach, Huong beach, etc. You can stop, admire, immerse yourself in the fresh water in the Beach.

Some notes when experiencing on the island

Cu Lao Cham is a large biosphere reserve, so you need to pay attention to environmental protection when exploring the island. Bringing nothing but photographs, leaving nothing but footprints is a civilized act to preserve the ecosystem as well as protect the landscape on the island.
