The hidden gem in the Central Highlands – Chu Dang Ya volcano – is an attractive destination in Gia Lai with wild yellow wild sunflowers carpet.
The Central Highlands this season is full of wild yellow sunflowers, most grown along the road, across the hills and mountains. At Chu Dang Ya, Gia Lai, wild sunflowers bloom in late October to the end of December every year.
Chu Dang Ya (in the local language means wild ginger root) locates in Ia Gri village, about 30km north of Pleiku city. This mountain has been inactive for millions of years and hides among vast green forests.


On the way to the Chu Dang Ya volcano, visitors can come across ancient trees, including rows of corn, potatoes, pumpkins, or arrowroot grown by farmers on fertile basalt soil. Galangal is considered an essential crop in this volcanic region, because of its tolerance to drought.
The wild sunflower, dyed in golden color on both sides of the road that leads to the foot of the hill, and stretches to the crater, enhancing the natural scenery of Chu Dang Ya more impressive.
Standing on Chu Dang Ya Volcano crater, the scenery appears so peaceful. The sorrow seems to disappear all when immersing yourself in the charm of the wild sunflowers carpet.

Not only tourists, but photographers also often check in Chu Dang Ya in the wild-sunflower season to capture the best moments. This is also the ideal place for young people to produce a wedding photo that imprints the Central Highlands.
According to Dung, “Hang Thong Street – Bien Ho Tea Garden – Chu Dang Ya Volcano” is considered as a beautiful route as “a paradise scene” in Gia Lai when coming to Chu Dang Ya volcano.
With this route, visitors depart from Bien Ho junction to Kon Tum about 3km, turn into Le Van Sy, you will go through famous landmarks such as the beautiful pine road, green tea garden, Buu Minh pagoda with lying Buddha statue and romantic Tan Son dam.
After that, you will continue moving to the intersection of Nghia Hung – Chu Jôr, then turn left, continue to go about 5km to get Chu Dang Ya volcano.


In addition to Chu Dang Ya volcano, other famous tourist destinations in Gia Lai not to be missed include the peaceful beauty of Bien Ho (T’Nung lake, Pleiku), Yaly Hydroelectricity (Chu Pah district), Bien Ho Dream tea (Chu Pah district) or the majestic Phu Cuong waterfall (Chu Se district).
