For those who are passionate about photography, Hoang Su Phi is a destination not-to-be-missed when traveling to Ha Giang, especially in May, when the pouring season is beautiful.

Ha Giang has always been a favorite destination for tourists, conquering dangerous challenges and a place with charming, beautiful, and ecstatic nature. The roads curved and gravel, the famous bends, the slopes of death, the spring flowers bloom in the sky captivated urge the tireless steps.

Ha Giang is beautiful all year round, every season wakes up. Once you went to Ha Giang, you’ll want to come back again, again, and again. There are a lot of seasons there to explore; the cloud season, the flowers bloom, the mustard season, the peach season, the plum season, the buckwheat season, etc.

Every April to May every year is when the pouring season returns to the glorious terraced fields in Hoang Su Phi. It is also the time when the adventurers, tourists set out to hunt for beautiful frames.

Unlike Mu Cang Chai or Y Ty, terraces in Hoang Su Phi Ha Giang seem to be higher, steeper, and more precarious. This makes the scenery even more majestic.

The ideal time to visit the flooding season in Hoang Su Phi

From the end of April to June is the season of pouring water, also known as the season of rice and sowing. Traveling to Ha Giang on this occasion, you will admire a famous terraced landscape in the Northwest as a “beautiful mirror of the sky,” which is extremely beautiful.

How to go to Hoang Su Phi terraces

This place is less than 80 km away from Ha Giang city, so it is quite convenient to conquer these colorful sparkling stairs.

If using public transport: From Hanoi, you can go by bus from My Dinh bus station to Ha Giang. Then rent a motorbike and move to NH2 to Tan Quang, then turn to DT177. Or go up to Thanh Thuy border gate and pass Tay Con Linh to Hoang Su Phi.

If using personal vehicles: From Hanoi, you can go towards Highway 2 to Hoang Su Phi. A small tip for you to to save the most time on a trip is after going to Hoang Su Phi, turn to Xi Man, Ha Bac and follow Yen Bai to return to Hanoi. So you will complete a circle and don’t need to go back to the original path.

The stairs sparkled with colored boxes

Hoang Su Phi’s specialties in the pouring season are the terrific fields sparkling with colors. Coming to Hoang Su Phi at the time of this season, you will admire the mixture of young green of rice, and the sparkling water of hundreds of stairs stretching from the top to the foot of the mountain.

The fields that connect to each other zigzag from mountain range to mountain range like soft curves of young girls, make visitors indulge in those curves and forget the hardships of conquering the bends of death, the steep slopes on the way to Hoang Su Phi.

When you overcome these difficulties and obstacles, stand on the top of the mountain and look far away, you will see the rice fields lined up in mountains, winding like earth veins which are extremely beautiful and unique. This scenery is hard to come across in the plains.

Enjoying the scenery of terraced fields in the early morning with soft curves with the white clouds and the bright sunlight of the dawn, the lovely roofs, and inhaling the taste of the mountains will give you an extremely generous feeling. 

Standing in front of the green majesty mountains, in the middle of white clouds looming like fairy-tale, you suddenly find yourself so small and humble.

In the sunset, watching the glittering fields placed on top of the mountain makes it easy to imagine that the distance between heaven and earth is very close.

Traveling to Hoang Su Phi in the pouring season, at the time of farming, you will quickly see images of ethnic people in colorful dresses of the Mong, Dao, and Nung who are cultivating young seedlings. The long shadows on the water, sparkling in the sunset, make the scene more beautiful and peaceful than ever.

Coming to Hoang Su Phi, if you want to admire the sparkling water season, you can visit terraced fields such as: 

  • Ban Phung terraced fields are located near the border with China, which is about 30 km from Vinh Quang town.
     
  • Ho Thau terraced fields are about 16 km away from the intersection of Nam Dich commune.
     
  • Thong Nguyen terraced fields: Three rivers are passing through and intersecting in a plateau, this village is located between Bac Quang and Hoang Su Phi. This field is one of the most beautiful places to watch terraced fields in Hoang Su Phi.
     
  • Besides, terraced fields in Ban Luoc commune and terraced fields in Nam Ty are also favorite destinations in Hoang Su Phi.

Chieu Lau Thi Mountain

Chieu Lau Thi is called the nine-story mountain, located 42km from Hoang Su Phi. With a height of 2,402m, Chieu Lau Thi is a place that many young people passionate to conquer.

Tay Con Linh Mountain

With a height of 2,419m, Tay Con Linh is also known as the “Northeastern roof” and is one of the highest mountains in Vietnam. This mountain is according to the La Chi ethnic people to be a sacred mountain.

Hoang Su Phi Market

Located at the foot of the majestic Tay Con Linh peak, Hoang Su Phi market is held every Sunday. Not only is the place for exchanging goods, but it is also a meeting place for acquaintances of boys and girls.

Po Lung Blockhouse

Po Lung Blockhouse in Vinh Quang town, also known as French Bunker – is called by the local people built by the French from the late nineteenth century. This base is a military architectural complex, including a trench, a blockhouse, an airport on a hill located east of Vinh Quang town of Hoang Su Phi district.

Discover Ha Giang cuisine

Thang Co: This is a traditional dish of H’Mong ethnic people, made from horses including head, legs, meats, organs, etc. and cardamom. Previously, the Mong people only processed from horses, today this dish is also made from other meats such as buffaloes, cows, goats, etc.

Buffalo meat hung in the kitchen: After being seasoned with chili, ginger, and chopped, the large, long-grain of buffalo meat is smoked and skewered to a large stick hanging on the kitchen counter. After a while, the piece of buffalo meat dries out, having a rich sweetness and characteristic flavor. Buffalo meat hung in the kitchen eat just strange, just delicious without preservatives. This dish is very popular with tourists when traveling to Ha Giang. 

Shan Tuyet Tea is a premium tea that collected from the youngest tea buds of the over a hundred years old tea trees in the Tay Con Linh mountain range. The fog covers all year-round in Tay Con Linh Mountain, which is exceptionally suitable weather to grow this tea. Shan Tuyet tea is especially valuable not only for its pure aroma and sweetness but also for the outstanding uses of Shan Tuyet tea with health.
